News Synopsis

Microsoft is buying the major video game publisher behind the “Call of Duty '' franchise, Activision, for $68.7 billion, making it the largest-ever acquisition of the company and the largest video game acquisition in history.

With this deal, Microsoft will become the third-largest video game company, after Chinese giant Tencent and PlayStation-maker Sony. The company will acquire a huge selection of intellectual property and game development resources along with game franchises like "Call of Duty," "World of Warcraft," and "Candy Crush." 

Microsoft will also acquire the major game studios including Blizzard Entertainment and Treyarch. Approximately 10,000 employees will join Microsoft under the deal. Earlier, the company acquired the “Minecraft” maker Mojang for $2.5 billion and Bethesda Softworks for $7.5 billion.
