Microsoft to set up Data Centre in Telangana

News Synopsis

US-based technology giant Microsoft and the Telangana government have finalised a deal to set up a data centre in Hyderabad at an investment of Rs 15,000 crore. For this, 50 acres of land will be made available near the city. The project is expected to generate employment for about 300 people in the state.

According to sources aware of the matter, a formal announcement in this regard will be made within a month. Telangana is one of the few states in the country that has formulated a data centre policy in 2016. The state is expecting an investment of around $10 billion in the sector over the next five years. At the end of the year 2020, Amazon Web Services (AWS) had announced the second data centre in the country in Telangana with an investment of $2.77 billion. Flipkart and CTLS are also setting up such centres in the state.
