News Synopsis

Microsoft has said that it is launching the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA), which will allow users to operate Android apps on Windows 11, to five new markets later this year.

Currently available only in the United States, XDA Developers reports that WSA will be available in France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom by the end of the year. The Windows Subsystem for Android was announced alongside Windows 11 during an event on June 24, 2021, but was not launched until earlier this year.

The report said while Android apps are officially only available in the USA, it is relatively easy to install the WSA if you are in a different country. The report further said that if the user changes region settings in Windows, they can easily get it from the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft has also partnered with Amazon to make the Amazon App store available on Windows 11 and make most of the apps available on the Amazon platform available on Windows 11. The bigger challenge is getting the Amazon App store itself to work outside the United States. This reports that the Amazon App store only works with US-based Amazon accounts.
