News Synopsis

In a commitment to infuse generative AI across its product lineup, Meta has announced the integration of innovative AI-powered image editing and sticker-creation features for Instagram at its Connect event.

Meta, during its Connect event, introduced cutting-edge generative AI functionalities for Instagram, showcasing the company's dedication to integrating AI across its platforms.

"Restyle" - Advanced AI Filter:

One of the standout tools, named "restyle," acts as an advanced generative AI filter. Users can now transform their existing photos into a myriad of visual styles using this tool.

By inputting descriptors like "watercolour" or providing detailed prompts such as "collage from magazines and newspapers with torn edges," users can define the desired appearance of their images.

"Backdrop" - Virtual Green Screen:

Meta also introduced "backdrop," another AI-driven tool acting as a virtual green screen. Users can input prompts like "place me in front of a breathtaking aurora borealis," and the tool will generate an image with the corresponding background. While Meta did not specify a release date, it assured users that these tools would be available on Instagram "soon."

AI Labels to Prevent Confusion:

To avoid confusion, Meta stated that posts created using backdrop and restyle would feature labels indicating their use of AI. This ensures that AI-generated content is easily distinguishable from human-generated content. Instagram has previously used info screens stating "image generated by Meta AI."

Generative AI Stickers Across Platforms:

In addition to image editing, Meta showcased new AI-generated stickers. These stickers will be available not only on Instagram but also on WhatsApp, Messenger, and Facebook Stories.

Users can quickly create personalized stickers for conversations and Stories using text prompts. Meta announced a gradual rollout of these stickers to "select English-language users" within the next month.

Alignment with Meta's Vision:

These additions align with Mark Zuckerberg's vision of integrating generative AI features into all Meta-owned applications. The company has been progressively introducing AI-driven functionalities to enhance user experiences.

25+ Generative AI Chatbots:

As part of its AI-centric approach, Meta unveiled over 25 generative AI chatbots, some of which are based on real-life celebrities and creators. This expansive integration of AI aims to bring a new dimension to user interactions.
