News Synopsis

Meta has delayed the end-to-end encryption of Facebook and Instagram till 2023. The delay came after the child protection groups gave out a warning about how it could disturb any type of investigation for child abuse. The end-to-end encryption will prevent others from seeing the messages and the information cannot be used by law enforcement and Meta for any sort of investigation.

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), has said that encryption could lead to an increase in cases of child abuse. Antigone Davis, Meta's global head of safety, has said that the company is trying to get it right.

The head of Child Safety online Policy, Andy Burrows has appreciated the delay and has said that Meta needs to come up with measures to ensure child safety. Previously NSPCC along with 130 child protection organizations raised the issues about the end to end encryption and urged Facebook to show how serious they are about child safety.
