News Synopsis

German luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz has introduced its new all-electric Mercedes‑Benz VLE, a premium electric van designed to offer long-range capability, advanced technology, and luxury comfort for families and business users.

The new electric van is built on the company’s next-generation VAN.EA electric van platform, marking the beginning of a new era for Mercedes-Benz electric vans and multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs). With a driving range exceeding 700 kilometres on the WLTP cycle, fast charging capabilities, and flexible seating for up to eight passengers, the VLE aims to combine practicality with high-end luxury.

The model is positioned below the upcoming flagship Mercedes‑Benz VLS in the brand’s van lineup and will be offered in multiple variants and configurations.

A New Electric Luxury Van Inspired by Vision V

Premium Design and Versatile Configuration

The newly unveiled Mercedes‑Benz VLE draws design inspiration from the futuristic Mercedes‑Benz Vision V concept, translating the concept’s modern styling into a production-ready electric vehicle.

Mercedes-Benz describes the VLE as a premium multi-purpose vehicle that blends luxury with practicality. The van will be offered in standard and long-wheelbase versions, giving customers flexibility depending on their space and seating requirements.

Several trim levels will be available at launch, including:

  • AMG Line

  • AMG Line Plus

  • Exclusive

The interior layout allows for multiple seating configurations, enabling the vehicle to accommodate anywhere between five and eight passengers. This flexibility makes the VLE suitable for a wide range of uses, including family transport, executive travel, airport transfers, and premium shuttle services.

Built on Mercedes-Benz’s New Electric VAN.EA Platform

A Modular Architecture for Future Electric Vans

One of the most significant aspects of the Mercedes‑Benz VLE is its foundation on the brand’s newly developed VAN.EA electric van platform.

This modular architecture has been specifically designed for future electric vans and MPVs from Mercedes-Benz.

The platform allows the manufacturer to build multiple vehicle styles using shared engineering components while offering different wheelbases, body types, and technology packages.

This strategy helps streamline production while maintaining design flexibility.

In addition to the electric VAN.EA platform, Mercedes-Benz is also preparing a VAN.CA architecture designed for combustion-engine vans. These models will complement the electric lineup and provide options for markets where internal combustion engines remain in demand.

Powerful Electric Powertrain Options

Two Performance Variants at Launch

At launch, the Mercedes‑Benz VLE will be available in two primary electric powertrain configurations.

VLE 300

The entry-level VLE 300 features a front-wheel-drive electric motor producing approximately 276 horsepower.

This variant is designed to prioritise efficiency and maximum driving range, making it ideal for long journeys and daily commuting.

VLE 400

The more powerful VLE 400 adds all-wheel drive capability with a combined output of around 415 horsepower.

This performance-oriented model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 6.5 seconds, an impressive figure for a vehicle in the luxury van category.

Both variants are electronically limited to a top speed of around 180 km/h, ensuring balanced performance and efficiency.

Large Battery Pack Enables 700km Driving Range

High-Capacity Energy Storage System

The VLE’s impressive driving range is made possible by a 115kWh NMC battery pack installed in the vehicle’s floor.

The battery uses prismatic cells supplied by CATL, one of the world’s leading battery manufacturers.

Mercedes-Benz has adopted a cell-to-pack battery design, which improves space utilisation and helps optimise energy density.

In its most efficient configuration, the VLE 300 can deliver more than 700 kilometres of driving range on the WLTP cycle.

Such long-distance capability places the VLE among the longest-range electric vans currently available in the market.

Ultra-Fast Charging Technology

800-Volt System Enables Rapid Recharging

The Mercedes‑Benz VLE is equipped with an advanced 800-volt electrical architecture, allowing significantly faster charging compared to conventional EV systems.

With DC fast-charging speeds of up to 320kW, the van’s battery can recharge from 10 percent to 80 percent in roughly 25 minutes.

Under ideal conditions, a 15-minute charging session can add approximately 320 kilometres of driving range.

This rapid charging capability makes the VLE particularly practical for long-distance travel and commercial operations where minimal downtime is essential.

Future VLE 250 Variant for Fleet Operators

A More Affordable Electric Van Option

Mercedes-Benz also plans to introduce a third variant, the VLE 250, at a later stage. This version will feature a smaller 80kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, which is expected to deliver a driving range of approximately 400 to 450 kilometres on the WLTP cycle.

The VLE 250 will likely support DC charging speeds of up to 300kW.

Unlike the luxury-focused versions, this model will primarily target commercial fleet operators, including:

  • Delivery services

  • Hotel shuttle operators

  • Airport transfer companies

By offering multiple battery options, Mercedes-Benz aims to address both premium and commercial segments of the electric van market.

Aerodynamic Exterior Design

Sleek Styling Improves Efficiency

The Mercedes‑Benz VLE adopts a streamlined body design aimed at maximising aerodynamic efficiency.

With a drag coefficient of 0.25Cd, the vehicle achieves excellent airflow management for its size.

Key exterior design highlights include:

  • A long front overhang

  • A smooth, flowing roofline

  • A rounded rear profile

At the front, the van features a distinctive grille design that may include an illuminated frame depending on the trim level.

A continuous LED light strip connects the headlights, which incorporate Mercedes-Benz’s signature star-shaped daytime running lights.

Distinctive Lighting and Practical Features

Functional Design With Premium Touches

The rear design also emphasises modern lighting technology.

A full-width LED light bar stretches across the tailgate and spoiler area, forming an inverted U-shaped pattern.

Customers will be able to choose wheel sizes ranging from 19 to 22 inches.

Practicality is another key aspect of the design. The van includes:

  • Electric sliding doors on both sides

  • Power windows

  • A separate opening rear glass section for easier cargo access

These features make the vehicle suitable for both passenger transport and light cargo use.

Flexible Seating and Luxury Comfort

Customisable Interior Configurations

Inside, the Mercedes‑Benz VLE offers several seating arrangements.

Customers can configure the vehicle with five, six, seven, or eight seats, depending on their requirements.

Rear passengers can choose from multiple seat types:

  • Comfort seats with manual adjustments

  • Premium Comfort seats with electric adjustments

  • Grand Comfort seats with luxury features

The top-tier Grand Comfort seats include:

  • Massage functionality

  • Lumbar support

  • Integrated pillow headrests

  • Wireless charging pads

These features are designed to provide a premium travel experience, particularly for executive passengers.

Advanced Digital Technology and Entertainment

Superscreen and 8K Rear Display

The cabin of the Mercedes‑Benz VLE incorporates a high-tech digital dashboard.

The Superscreen system integrates three displays:

  • A 10.25-inch digital driver display

  • A 14-inch central touchscreen

  • A 14-inch passenger display

For rear passengers, the van offers a retractable 31.3-inch 8K entertainment screen that folds into the roof liner when not in use.

Additional technology features include:

  • Over-the-air software updates

  • A 22-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system

  • Advanced driver-assistance systems powered by cameras, radar, and ultrasonic sensors

Together, these technologies aim to deliver a premium entertainment and safety experience for all occupants.
