News Synopsis

Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), Odisha-based arm of Coal India, is likely to outstrip its annual production target this financial year. Its target for this year's annual production is 163 million tons. A couple of days back MCL went past its highest recorded production in the last fiscal year, with more than a month left for the current fiscal year to end. Coal India Limited (CIL) in a statement said:  ''Averaging a little over 5 lakh tonnes per day, MCL is on track to outstrip its annual production target of 163 MT for FY'22,''  As of the referred date, MCL has surpassed its progressive target of 144.5 MT by 3.7 MT with the achievement being 102.6 per cent.” MCL is only short of 15 MT of coal and with more than a month left, undoubtedly it is going to achieve much more than expected. South Eastern Coalfields Ltd, another subsidiary of Coal India Ltd., has also gone past its last year total production. CIL is the biggest supplier of coal in the country amounting to contributing 80% to the total coal supply. It on average currently is rolling out 2.3 MT of coal every day.
