News Synopsis

Attorney General of Washington, D.C. sued Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg on Monday, alleging that he was involved in a decision that led to a data breach in Cambridge Analytica.

In the new proceedings, Racine's office reiterates its responsibility for Zuckerberg's personal contribution to the lazy monitoring of Facebook's user data. According to the Attorney General's office, the company has allowed third parties, such as the now abolished political consultant Cambridge Analytica, to obtain personal information from 87 million Americans.

Facebook has separately agreed to pay $5 billion to settle the relevant Federal Trade Commission fees. At the time of the settlement, Zuckerberg said Facebook will bring some major structural changes to the way we make products and run this business.

Authorities recently examined company documents disclosed by former employee Frances Haugen and reported by The Wall Street Journal, indicating that internal company investigations have revealed the negative effects of unaddressed platforms.
