News Synopsis

Mahindra's proactive recall for the Scorpio-N highlights the company's commitment to vehicle reliability and customer safety. By addressing issues related to the alternator pulley, steering input shaft, transmission wiring, and updating critical software, Mahindra ensures the Scorpio-N remains a dependable and safe vehicle for its owners.

Mahindra Issues Service Action for Scorpio-N

Mahindra has announced a "service action" for owners of the Mahindra Scorpio-N. This recall involves replacing the alternator pulley, re-torquing the nut on the steering input shaft, and adding an extra clip to the transmission wiring for vehicles with automatic transmissions.

Additionally, the service includes two software updates for the SRS ECU and the EMS ECU.

Free Service Action for Owners

The service action is provided at no cost to owners and can be performed at the nearest service center. Mahindra is actively contacting eligible customers for the recall.

However, customers should note that the company’s website link (auto.mahindra.com/service-action) does not show any service action due when a vehicle's VIN (vehicle identification number) is entered. Therefore, it is advisable to check directly with the service center.

Reasons for the Recall

Vehicle manufacturers continually improve the reliability and safety of their models, even after they are launched. When potential failures are identified under real-world conditions, improved parts are developed, and vehicles are recalled to retrofit these parts. The Mahindra Scorpio-N, launched in June 2022 and updated in April 2023, is currently subject to this recall, affecting model-year 2023 vehicles.

Alternator Pulley Improvement

The recall includes an upgraded alternator pulley designed to reduce stress on the engine belt, enhancing its reliability and preventing premature wear and tear.

Steering Input Shaft Adjustment

Another aspect of the service action is re-torquing the nuts on the i-shaft of the steering column assembly, addressing customer complaints of noise and vibration.

Transmission Wiring Harness Clip

For automatic transmission vehicles, an additional clip will be fitted to secure the transmission wiring harness, ensuring it is safely tucked away.

Quick and Convenient Fixes

These fixes are quick, typically taking less than a couple of hours, and can be done during routine service or as a standalone action. Owners are advised to book an appointment at the service center through the "Mahindra for you" app (formerly "With you Hamesha") or by calling the service center directly.

Software Updates

The recall also includes software updates for the SRS ECU, which is part of the airbag system, and the EMS ECU, which manages the engine. These updates are essential as pollution control norms become more stringent, requiring advanced electronic systems to ensure emissions are minimized, currently adhering to BS6.2 or Euro 6 standards.

Previous Recalls

Previously, Mahindra recalled 6,618 units of the Scorpio-N with manual transmissions, manufactured between July and November 2022, to inspect and replace a rubber bellow inside the clutch bell housing.
