News Synopsis

India is again at a strange crossroad; one that seems all too familiar. Perhaps because we experienced the same cycle early this year when the second wave of the coronavirus hit our country and caused havoc. Again we are seeing the same restlessness in state machinery in re-opening the economy when the number of Covid cases is constantly rising. Today there were more than 30,000 COVID-19 cases reported across India. Amidst all this, the decision taken by the Kerala government seems foolish and hurried.

If you go back a few months, you can easily make out that this has already happened. Earlier this year we went through the same cycle and look at what it did to us. The consequences were scathing to the whole nation. And it was the same restlessness of the state mixed with the carelessness of people that led to the second wave. Since then scientists and medical researchers have constantly been warning us of a third wave and still, the central and state government doesn’t seem concerned at all. Their carelessness is apparent through these hurried decisions such as the opening of public spaces without proper Covid protocols.
