News Synopsis

Ken Kutaragi, the inventor of PlayStation and former Sony executive has said in an interview that he does not see much value in the metaverse. He also said that the metaverse is about making a semi-real world in the virtual world and he can’t see the point of doing it and that an individual would be a polished avatar instead of being his real self.

He implemented that being in the real world is also very important. He also said that headsets would isolate people from the real world and that headsets are simply annoying.

The metaverse is the concept borrowed from science fiction, which refers to a future version of the internet accessed through immersive technologies like AR and VR. Meta is at the forefront of tech companies interested in metaverse technology. Microsoft has also said that it will be focusing on building metaverse platforms with the acquisition of game publisher Activision

Ken Kutaragi is not the first member of the industry to express his doubts on the metaverse. The founder of Evernote, Phil Libin has also pointed out that hype surrounding metaverse tech reminds him of communist propaganda he was exposed to while growing up in the former Soviet Union.
