News Synopsis

Today, Supreme Court Justice DY Chandrachud reprimanded a lawyer for filing a "Publicity Interest Litigation" seeking compensation for the families of attorneys who died before the age of sixty. It imposed a $10,000 fine on the lawyer, which must be paid to the Supreme Court Bar Association within a week. The petitioner demanded 50 lakhs for such homes, alleging that the government had provided financial help to other parts of society during the Pandemic. To him, his case should be treated differently just because he was dressed in "a black coat." The court advised him that his life was not more precious just because it was wrapped in a black cloak. Physical sessions at the Delhi High Court and district courts in the national capital began in late August. The Supreme Court will undertake hybrid hearings beginning September 1st, which will involve both real and virtual sessions. Attorneys and their workers are in severe danger, according to Mr Yadav, because all courts are closed.
