News Synopsis

The American singer and songwriter, Jon Batiste won five trophies including album of the year, the highlight of the night, for “We Are” at the 64th Grammy Awards. The R&B duo of Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak received the award for record and song of the year along with the R&B song and performance for “Leave the Door Open.”

Jon Batiste got 11 nominations and won 5 awards winning the Grammy’s top prize. Later, he talked about how there should not be such things as best artist, best actor and best records because art is subjective. He said, “In regards to music, it's more than entertainment for me. It’s a spiritual practice. He also gave a positive message to the crowd saying, “Be you. That’s it. I love you even if I don’t know you.”

Olivia Rodrigo was named the new artist of the year along with the best pop vocal album for “Sour” and pop solo performance for her song “Drivers License.” 

The awards show has multiple performances by Justin Bieber, BTS, Lady Gaga and many other artists. The award show also included important tributes. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky also delivered a prerecorded message at the Grammys.
