Jio Platforms’ Next Decade to Focus on AI, Cloud and Space Technology: Akash Ambani

Jio Platforms began its stock market journey on Wednesday with a strong listing, as Managing Director Akash Ambani outlined the company's technology ambitions for the next ten years. He said Jio aims to make artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, connected devices and space-based connectivity accessible to millions of Indians.

The listing marked a significant milestone for the company, which has grown from a new telecom venture into a digital services platform serving more than 540 million customers, according to Akash Ambani.

Jio Platforms Shares List at a 21.36% Premium

Jio Platforms shares debuted at ₹1,358 on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), against the IPO issue price of ₹1,119. This represented a listing premium of approximately 21.36%.

At the time of listing, the company recorded a market capitalisation of around ₹12.5 trillion, making it India's second-most valuable listed company.

Its parent, Reliance Industries, held the top position with a market capitalisation of ₹16.15 trillion, while Bharti Airtel ranked third at ₹12.18 trillion, according to BSE data cited in the report.

Akash Ambani Outlines Jio's Technology Vision for the Next Decade

Addressing the listing ceremony in Mumbai, Akash Ambani said Jio's next phase would focus on making transformative technologies available to people across India.

The company's priorities include:

  • Artificial intelligence: Expanding access to AI-powered services and capabilities.

  • Cloud computing: Making digital computing infrastructure more accessible.

  • Connected devices: Supporting a wider ecosystem of connected products and services.

  • Space-based connectivity: Exploring connectivity solutions enabled by space technology.

  • Digital services: Developing new services to address emerging customer needs.

Akash said Jio wants to create a digital society where connectivity, computing and intelligence work together seamlessly. The goal is to help people from different regions and language backgrounds participate more fully in the digital economy.

He explained that Jio's first decade concentrated on making mobile data affordable and bringing millions of Indians online. Its next phase will focus on extending the benefits of emerging technologies to a similarly broad population.

Jio Aims to Become a Global Technology Company

Akash Ambani also expressed his ambition to establish Jio Platforms as a major global technology company.

He said Jio's digital platforms have been developed in India to address the country's unique requirements, including its large population and diverse user base.

According to him, technologies designed for other markets were not always suitable for India's scale. This prompted Jio to build its own capabilities rather than relying entirely on ready-made solutions.

His vision is for Jio to become recognised internationally alongside leading technology companies, while continuing to develop services that meet Indian customers' needs.

Jio Platforms IPO Attracts Strong Investor Demand

Akash Ambani highlighted the strong response to Jio Platforms' initial public offering (IPO).

According to his remarks at the listing ceremony, the issue was fully subscribed within 95 minutes, making it the fastest subscription for India's largest IPO.

He said the offering attracted demand exceeding ₹7.5 trillion, with more than 130 million Indians participating. Akash described the investor response as stronger than anticipated, with participation across investor categories.

He also recalled Jio's early growth, including the milestone of reaching 100 million subscribers on February 20, 2017. The company later crossed the 500-million-customer mark, and its platforms now serve more than 540 million customers, he said.

Akash Ambani Pledges Long-Term Value for Shareholders

Akash said Jio's stock market listing represents the beginning of another phase in the company's development rather than the end of its journey.

He told shareholders that the company would work to protect and grow their wealth by delivering greater value to customers. He also emphasised transparent communication, fulfilling commitments and earning investor trust through performance.

The company's future growth, he indicated, would depend on its ability to build useful technologies, serve customers effectively and create sustainable business value.

Isha Ambani Draws Parallels With Reliance's 1977 IPO

Isha Ambani, a director at Jio Platforms, highlighted the company's financial performance and its connection with Reliance Industries' history.

She said Jio had generated approximately $15.5 billion in revenue and around $8 billion in what she described as “real earnings” during the year.

She also recalled Reliance's first public offering in 1977, when Dhirubhai Ambani raised ₹2.82 crore at a valuation of ₹10 crore, allowing ordinary investors to participate in the company's ownership.

Isha said Jio would continue following Mukesh Ambani's principle of creating value for customers, with the expectation that stronger customer value would ultimately support earnings growth.

Anant Ambani Thanks Customers, Employees and Investors

Anant Ambani, a director at Jio Platforms, acknowledged the contributions of customers, employees and investors to the company's development. He described the listing as another step in the Ambani family's broader effort to expand opportunities through technology.

His remarks reinforced the company's message that its future growth would depend not only on technological innovation but also on the people and stakeholders supporting its ecosystem.

Conclusion

Jio Platforms' market debut marks a new chapter in its growth strategy. With AI, cloud computing, connected devices and space-based connectivity at the centre of its ten-year vision, the company aims to expand digital access in India while strengthening its position in the global technology industry.
