News Synopsis

James Anderson 39, and Stuart Broad 35, will return for a three-test series against New Zealand next month as England enter a new era of management under Stokes and new coach Brendon McCullum, a former New Zealand international.

The first team under Stokes and McCullum included two new faces, Yorkshire batter Harry Brook and Durham bowler Matthew Potts, who was called up for the first time. Joe Root was selected after stepping down as Test captain following a loss to the West Indies in the series.

Rob Key, the new managing director for England men's cricket has said, “This is the start of a new era for our test team under the stewardship of Ben and Brendon. With a blend of youth and experience, we have selected an exciting squad that can compete with New Zealand in the next month’s Test series.”

England's first leg 'red-ball reset' against defending champions Test New Zealand with the opener at Lord's field from June 2. England also announced on Wednesday that Australia coach Matthew Mott has been appointed to lead the teams on a four-year contract. Mott, 48, has coached the Australian women's team since 2015, helping the team to win Twenty20 consecutive World Cup titles in 2018 and 2020 and a 50-over World Cup title last year.
