News Synopsis

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey is a strong supporter of open and decentralized social media and regrets being involved in creating a centralized Internet.

In a tweet, Dorsey, who is currently focusing on blockchain and cryptocurrencies through his financial services company Block (formerly Square), lamented the current state of the Internet.

Jake Dorsey said in a tweet, “The days of Usenet, IRC, the web...even email (w PGP)...were amazing. centralizing discovery and identity into corporations really damaged the internet." He further said, "I realize I'm partially to blame and regret it".

Last December, Dorsey said that large venture capital firms,  not users, actually own the Web 3.0 movement, which was "determined to be a non-negligible media empire." Web3, also known as Web3.0, is a new Internet idea that includes blockchain-based decentralisation.

Dorsey is currently engaged in building an open and fully decentralised Bitcoin mining system, at a time when crypto mining has raised serious energy consumption and mega e-waste generation concerns
