ITC’s 90% Power Needs in Tamil Nadu to be fulfilled with Renewable Sources

News Synopsis

ITC Ltd has announced that the company has commissioned a 14.9 MW solar power plant in Dindigul of Tamil Nadu. The company has said that this power plant is meant to meet the 90% of the company’s power needs in Tamil Nadu with renewable sources.

The company has taken the step as an initiative to combat climate change, with the use of renewable sources. The company is also planning to fulfil the entire grid electricity requirements from renewable sources by 2030. 

The Dindigul solar power plant is spread in more than 59 acres targets at generating more than 22 million units of renewable energy on annual basis. The plant would fulfil the energy requirements for ITC’s hotels, food manufacturing plants, paper manufacturing facilities, and printing and packaging factories in Tamil Nadu.

The company has invested more than 1,000 crores in renewable energy assets including different sources of renewable energy like Biomass boilers. The company also aims at reducing the consumption of specific energy by 2030. 

ITC has also been rated at the ‘Leadership Level’ with scores ‘A’ for both Climate Change and Water Security from CDP, one of the most reputed independent global platforms for disclosure on environmental impacts.
