News Synopsis

India will have more than 250 unicorns by 2025. This forecast is based on proprietary data analysis in Tech Unicorns Market Landscape Report IV of venture growth investor Iron Pillar.

InMobi was the first unicorn in India in 2011. Since then, 129 startups have joined this star status, 100 of which were added in January 2019, generating a total of $535 billion.

Entrepreneurs grow bigger businesses at a faster rate than 50% of the 130 companies that gained unicorn status in the first five years after the first systematic financing. The public list of 12 unicorns is another indicator of the growing maturity of India's technology ecosystem.

Unicorns formed in India included 58 global cloud companies, 59 B2C (business-to-business) companies, and 13 B2B (business-to-business) companies. More and more Indian technology founders are building from India for the global market and are choosing to set up their headquarters in the United States.

According to CB Insights' March 2022 report on shares of unicorns, India came as the third-largest technology market in the world after the United States and China. Indian tech startups have raised $42 billion in 2021 alone.
