WhatsApp has finally started testing multi-account support for iPhone users through its latest TestFlight beta build. While this feature has been among the most requested for years, it is currently limited only to beta testers and has not yet reached the stable release.

WhatsApp Begins Testing Multi-Account Support for iPhone Users: Here’s What to Expect

Feature Long Requested by iPhone Users

For years, iPhone users have wanted the convenience of running more than one WhatsApp account on a single device. Managing separate personal and professional numbers often meant carrying two phones or relying on the WhatsApp Business app as an imperfect workaround. Now, WhatsApp is finally moving closer to solving this with native multi-account support—though the feature is still in beta testing.

Available Only for Beta Testers Right Now

The new multi-account functionality is part of WhatsApp’s latest beta update through TestFlight. This means only users enrolled in the beta program can try it at the moment. Meta has not yet released the feature for the stable iOS version. However, early testers report that the addition is already simplifying account management significantly.

Spotted by WABetaInfo in the Latest TestFlight Build

WABetaInfo, a popular source for WhatsApp feature tracking, spotted the feature within the newest TestFlight build. Unlike earlier hints buried in the app’s code, this version includes a working interface that allows users to add and switch between accounts directly in the app’s settings. This confirms that WhatsApp has moved from internal development to real-world testing.

New account-switching UI Rolling Out to Testers

Depending on the rollout stage, testers may see one of two interface designs. Some users report a brand-new “Account List” section under Settings, while others see a dedicated button placed beside the profile QR code. Both placements allow users to seamlessly add another WhatsApp account without using a secondary device or the WhatsApp Business app.

Flexible Setup Options for Multiple Accounts

Although the feature currently supports only two accounts per device, WhatsApp has made the setup process very flexible. Beta users can:

  • Register a completely new number

  • Restore an older WhatsApp account used on another device

  • Add an account linked through a QR code from a companion phone

Once an account is added, the app automatically syncs chats, media, and personal preferences. This ensures a smooth transition without the need to manually configure each account.

Independent Operation for Each Account

WhatsApp is making sure the two accounts operate independently to avoid confusion. Each account maintains its own:

  • Chat history

  • Backup settings

  • Notification preferences

Notifications also clearly indicate which account they belong to, making it easier for users who handle both personal and business conversations on the same iPhone.

A Step Toward WhatsApp’s Bigger Identity Shift

Multi-account support seems to be part of WhatsApp's broader move toward a more flexible identity system. The platform is already preparing to introduce usernames, which could allow users to connect without sharing phone numbers. With multi-account support, WhatsApp is laying the foundation for more versatile user management options in the future.

No Official Launch Timeline Yet

For now, WhatsApp has not confirmed when multi-account support will be available for all iPhone users. However, since the feature is already in active beta testing and functioning well for early adopters, it is likely that a public rollout isn’t too far away. Until then, only TestFlight participants can access and experience the feature.
