News Synopsis

The co-founder of Infosys and a prominent figure in the Indian technology industry, Narayana Murthy, has advised young professionals against the pitfalls of moonlighting while working from home. In a recent interview, he cautioned that taking on additional jobs while working from home can lead to a loss of productivity and can ultimately harm an individual's career prospects.

Moonlighting, or taking on a second job in addition to one's regular employment, has become more prevalent in recent years, especially in the gig economy. With many people working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the opportunity to take on extra work has increased. However,  Murthy warns that this can have negative consequences.

In his interview, Murthy emphasized the importance of focusing on one's primary job, rather than dividing attention between multiple roles. He noted that moonlighting can lead to a loss of focus and productivity, which can ultimately harm an individual's career prospects.

Murthy also advised young professionals to take advantage of the opportunities presented by remote work. He suggested that they should use this time to upskill and focus on their primary job, rather than taking on additional work that may distract them from their career goals.

"As young professionals, it's important to stay focused on your primary job and not fall into the trap of moonlighting,"  Murthy said. "Instead, use this time to upskill and focus on your career goals. With remote work becoming more prevalent, there are many opportunities to grow and develop your skills."

Murthy's advice comes at a time when many professionals are struggling to maintain a work-life balance while working from home. With the boundaries between work and personal life becoming increasingly blurred, it's important for individuals to prioritize their career goals and focus on their primary job, rather than getting sidetracked by additional work.
