IndiGo becomes Sixth-largest Airline in the World

According to the UK-based Official Airlines Guide (OAG), India's low-cost carrier IndiGo became the world's sixth-largest airline in terms of passenger numbers in March. According to statistics collected till March 28, the airline carried more than 2.02 million passengers in March. 

IndiGo was also named by OAG as the fastest-growing airline in the world, with a footfall growth of 41.3% in March. The airline also ranked among the top 10 airlines in the world in terms of seating capacity in March.

OAG data includes a list of the top 20 global airlines by flight along with airport and route capacity based on monthly data. IndiGo is the only airline from India that appears on this list.

Ronojoy Dutta, the whole-time director and chief executive, of IndiGo, said, “It is exciting to see IndiGo among the top airlines in the world. It also is a moment of pride for India, and a strong indicator that the nation is bouncing back strongly from the pandemic.”

The airline recently announced that it will resume regular service on more than 150 international flights from various airports in India in April. IndiGo has also added some new routes to its domestic network.
