News Synopsis

Indian travellers can now use UPI apps to book tickets for Burj Khalifa, Universal Studios Singapore and other popular attractions in the UAE and Singapore.

Indians Can Now Use UPI to Book Burj Khalifa and Universal Studios Singapore Tickets

Indian travellers can now use the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to purchase online tickets for several popular tourist attractions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Singapore. The new facility covers bookings for Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Universal Studios Singapore, Singapore Oceanarium and Adventure Cove Waterpark.

Announced by the Ministry of Finance on October 30, 2026, the initiative allows visitors from India to make online payments through their familiar UPI applications. It is expected to simplify the ticket-booking process for international travel.

The facility has been introduced through partnerships between NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), and payment service providers in the respective countries.

UPI Payments Now Available for Burj Khalifa Tickets

Indian visitors can now use UPI to book tickets online for At the Top, Burj Khalifa, one of Dubai's most popular tourist attractions.

NIPL has partnered with NEOPAY and Emaar Entertainment to introduce the payment facility in the UAE. According to the Finance Ministry, Burj Khalifa has become the first attraction in the country to support UPI for e-commerce transactions.

The integration will allow Indian tourists to complete their ticket purchases using supported UPI applications, offering an alternative to other international payment methods.

The move is expected to make advance bookings more convenient for visitors planning to experience the landmark's observation decks.

Universal Studios Singapore Accepts UPI for Online Bookings

UPI payments have also been extended to selected attractions at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore.

NIPL has partnered with FOMO Pay, a payment institution, to enable the facility. Indian visitors can use UPI for online ticket purchases at the following destinations:

  • Universal Studios Singapore: A popular theme park featuring rides, attractions and entertainment experiences.

  • Singapore Oceanarium: A major marine attraction offering visitors an opportunity to explore aquatic life.

  • Adventure Cove Waterpark: A water-based entertainment destination with rides and other attractions.

The Finance Ministry said the initiative responds to the increasing demand for convenient and reliable cross-border payment options.

Singapore is an important destination for Indian tourists. The country received approximately 1.2 million visitors from India in 2025, highlighting the potential value of easier payment facilities for travellers.

In Which Countries Is UPI Accepted?

UPI has expanded beyond India through partnerships with payment networks and financial institutions in international markets.

As of the announcement, the payment system is accepted in 10 countries:

  1. Singapore

  2. United Arab Emirates

  3. France

  4. Mauritius

  5. Nepal

  6. Bhutan

  7. Qatar

  8. Sri Lanka

  9. Cambodia

  10. Greece

Indian visitors can use UPI at supported merchants and locations in these markets, subject to the availability of participating payment services.

Uzbekistan Expected to Become the 11th Country

Uzbekistan is expected to become the 11th country to accept UPI following a commercial agreement announced on August 30, 2026, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the country.

The expansion reflects India's efforts to increase the international reach of its digital payment infrastructure.

UPI has also been used for international tourist bookings in the past. For instance, UPI-based ticket payments for the Eiffel Tower in France were introduced on January 26, 2024.

How Will UPI Expansion Benefit Indian Travellers?

The availability of UPI for overseas attraction bookings is expected to make international travel planning easier for Indian visitors.

Travellers can use payment applications they are already familiar with instead of depending entirely on international cards or other payment methods. This can simplify the process of purchasing tickets before reaching their destinations.

The expansion also strengthens India's digital payment connections with other countries. By working with overseas payment providers, NIPL is helping extend UPI's reach into international tourism and online commerce.

Conclusion

The introduction of UPI payments for Burj Khalifa and selected Singapore attractions marks another step in the international expansion of India's digital payment system. Indian tourists can now use familiar payment apps to book tickets at popular destinations in these countries. As more international partnerships develop, UPI could become an increasingly convenient payment option for Indians travelling abroad.
