Indian Railways’ solar power plant shortlisted for International award

An official of Indian Railways, On Friday, informed that the Indian Railways’ solar power plant installed at the Bina Station in Madhya Pradesh has been shortlisted for an International sustainable green energy award. This solar power plant was installed in a bid to promote the use of green energy. This plant comes under the West Central Railway (WCR) in the Sagar district. Rahul Jaipuriyar, Chief Public Relations Officer of West Central Railways said: "The solar power plant having an installed capacity of 1.7 megawatt has been operating since the last one-and-a-half years, supplying electricity directly to the traction system used to run trains.”  The solar plant has been nominated for the award in 'Best Use of Zero-Carbon Technology Category' by the International Union of Railways, a worldwide railway organization based in France. This solar power plant installed in West Central Railway will be competing against the railways of East Japan and railways of South America. The said award will be announced in the month of June this year. The solar power plant is currently churning out 1.8 million of power each year. Mr. Jaipuriya further explained that the electric traction system powered by the solar power plant is an energy-efficient and sustainable alternative. He also informed that all other tracks of the Jabalpur, Kota, and Bhopal divisions have been electrified, thus curbing carbon emissions.
