News Synopsis

While speaking at TV9's Global Summit, India's Telecom Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, stated that 5G will be available in 20-25 towns and cities by the end of the year, most likely in August or September. According to Ashwini Vaishnaw, India is currently developing 4G and 5G stacks to strengthen its position as a reliable source for the world in the digital network space.

Furthermore, he stated that in order to address the issue of unwanted calls, the Ministry is working on regulations that will allow the KYC identity name of a caller to be displayed when someone calls.

When asked about the cost, Vaishnaw stated that data rates in India are significantly lower than in other countries even today. Furthermore, he stated that India will continue to follow the same trend in terms of 5G data prices.

5G connectivity will be 10 times faster than 4G. DoT stated in April that a peak data speed of 4Gbps was achieved at the Gujarat test site during the 5G speed test.

During testing, Jio's 5G Network achieved download speeds of 420Mbps (3.36Gbps) and upload speeds of 412Mbps (3.29Gbps). Currently, Jio's 4G network has a download speed of 46.82 Mbps and an upload speed of 25.3 Mbps.
