News Synopsis

According to a latest report from the investment fund, Iron PillarIndia, India is expected to have more than 250 unicorns by 2025. This report is backed by a record 43 Indian startups turned Unicorn in 2021. Iron Pillar has earlier invested in companies like software startup Uniphore, meat delivery startup FreshToHome, cloud kitchen player, Eatfit, etc in India. As per the Iron Pillar report titled ‘India Tech Trends', this year, the aggregate valuation of Indian unicorns stands at $535 billion. The total number of Unicorns in the country has doubled to 130 in the past 15 months. Additionally, the country’s startup ecosystem has witnessed close to 100 unicorns being added since January 2019.

On Monday, the Managing Director of Iron Pillar, Anand Prasanna said: “ We believe that this pace may reduce a bit in the next 24 months, creating 250 companies with over $1 billion valuation by 2025 is an extremely achievable goal for Indian founders. We are especially bullish since almost 50% of these scaled companies are building for markets beyond India as well.” Last year, Indian startups raised $38 billion in risk capital. This made 2021 a seminal year for raising funds. One of the major reasons behind this was that a significant number of tech companies went public on the Indian Stock Exchanges
