News Synopsis

In a concerted effort to unify the nation's burgeoning startup ecosystem, entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, and stakeholders, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is gearing up for the grand launch of the Startup India Innovation Week 2024. Scheduled to run from January 10th to 18th, this event is poised to be a celebration of the dynamic Indian Startup Ecosystem, culminating in the commemoration of National Startup Day on January 16th, 2024.

Inaugural Seminar Unveiling Infinite Potential

The week kicks off with the inauguration by Secretary of Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Rajesh Kumar Singh, who is set to deliver the opening address at the Startup Seminar themed 'Startups Unlocking Infinite Potential' on January 11th, 2024. This seminar is an integral part of the Tenth Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit hosted in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, providing a global stage for business networking and knowledge exchange.

Celebrating Achievements, Recognizing Potential:

On the pivotal date of January 16th, the stage shines on two exciting initiatives:

  • National Startup Awards 2023: Witness the recognition of outstanding startups and ecosystem enablers who are driving innovation, generating jobs, and creating wealth.

  • States' Startup Ranking Framework 4th Edition: See which states and union territories are leading the charge in fostering a conducive environment for startup growth.

Nationwide Spotlight on Innovation:

While the awards ceremony takes center stage, the week is far from quiet across India. Incubators across the country are hosting physical events showcasing the ingenuity of Indian entrepreneurs, featuring workshops, mentorship sessions, stakeholder roundtables, and insightful panel discussions.

Recognition and Celebrations on National Startup Day

A major highlight on January 16th will be the declaration of results and the felicitation ceremony for the National Startup Awards 2023 and the 4th edition of the States’ Startup Ranking Framework. These initiatives, fundamental to the Startup India program, aim to acknowledge outstanding startups and ecosystem enablers contributing significantly to innovation, employment generation, and wealth creation.

Nationwide Physical Events and Innovations Spotlight

Simultaneously, physical events are planned nationwide, orchestrated by incubators to highlight innovations by Indian entrepreneurs. These events encompass workshops, mentorship sessions, stakeholder round tables, and panel discussions, creating an immersive experience for participants.

Engaging Virtual Sessions and Mentorship Opportunities

To further engage the startup community, eight virtual Ask Me Anything (AMA) live sessions are slated to run from January 10th to 17th, featuring discussions with key figures in the startup ecosystem. These include incubators, investors, mentors, unicorns, corporates, startups, academia, and government representatives.

The week will also host five dedicated mentorship sessions focusing on 'How to Start Up,' aiming to empower aspiring entrepreneurs and student entrepreneurs.

Startup India's Remarkable Journey and Achievements

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 16th, 2016, the Startup India initiative aims to nurture innovation, propel startups, and stimulate investments. Recognizing the pivotal role startups play in nation-building, the Prime Minister declared January 16th as National Startup Day in 2022. As India marks the completion of eight years since the inception of Startup India, the initiative has witnessed remarkable growth, with over 1,17,000 recognized startups today.

National Startup Awards and States' Startup Ranking: A Testimony to Excellence

The National Startup Awards, a cornerstone of the initiative, applauds startups and ecosystem enablers for their innovative products, scalable enterprises, and significant potential for employment generation and wealth creation. The States’ Startup Ranking evaluates the efforts of states and union territories in constructing a conducive ecosystem for startup growth, fostering healthy competition among them.

Youth Empowerment through MY Bharat Initiative

In collaboration with the Department of Youth Affairs, DPIIT is actively promoting the Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) initiative, launched by the Prime Minister in October 2023. This technology-driven facilitator for youth development will be a focal point during the Innovation Week, with various outreach activities aimed at promoting entrepreneurship to the nation’s youth.
