India Displaced UK in The Global Unicorn Index

News Synopsis

India has displaced the United Kingdom in the Global Startup Index 2021. India has got third place in the index with the addition of 33 new 'unicorns' in a single year. India was placed fourth in 2020 with the USA, China, and the UK at the first, second, and third place respectively. 

According to the Hurun Research Institute, the United States of America added 254 unicorns, China added 74 unicorns, and India added 33 new unicorns within a year. The United Kingdom was only able to add 15 unicorns to the list taking itself to fourth position. 

Anas Rahman Junaid, the Managing Director, and Chief Researcher at the Hurun Report India has said that India is in the midst of a startup boom with a total of 54 startups. He also said that in addition to the domestic companies there are a total of 65 unicorns founded by Indians abroad, especially in Silicon Valley.
