India and UAE sign Free Trade Agreement

News Synopsis

India has signed a Free Trade Agreement with the United Arab Emirates. Through this agreement, the import duty on most Indian products exported to the UAE will be reduced. The name of this agreement is the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CSEA).

This is the first major trade agreement signed by the Government of India since coming to power for the first time in 2014. This important agreement has been signed between the two countries in New Delhi. 

The Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on behalf of India and Minister of Economy Abdullah bin Touq Al-Marri from the UAE participated and signed. Under this agreement, the import duty on many products will be cut. Whereas, with this agreement, the Government of India is confident of accelerating the export of Gems and Jewellery and Clothing mainly.
