India aims to export 7.5 MT of sugar this year

According to the Sugar Industry body, ISMA, India’s sugar export capacity is to reach 7.5 MT in the current financial year. This is an increase of 15.38 percent year on year basis. Till last month India has already exported 4.2 MT of sugar. According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA): "India will export 7.5 million tonne sugar in the current season, as against six million tonnes estimated earlier." India is one of the largest sugar producers in the world second only to Brazil. Global scarcity of sugar around the globe is also one of the contributing factors to increase in the export of Indian sugar. This Month India is all set to export around 1.2-1.3 MT of sugar. Uttar Pradesh is the top sugar producing state in the country however the production of sugar in the state fell to 6.86 million tonnes. On the contrary, the sugar production in Maharashtra increased to 9.71 million tonnes.
