News Synopsis

Former chairperson of Turkish Airlines, Ilker Ayci has declined the role of Air India’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director. He was appointed as the CEO of the airline company last month on February 14th. He was set to assume charge of his new role from April 1 and he also expressed his gratitude after being appointed by the Board Of Tata Sons. Now according to the latest reports, he has declined the role of the CEO and MD at Air India. He told his appointment was ‘coloured’ by the Indian media. Ilker Ayci in a statement said: “I have come to the conclusion that it would not be a feasible or an honourable decision to accept the position in the shadow of such a narrative.” Some Media reports also say that he refrained himself from accepting the new role because his appointment was opposed by an influential organization in India. This is because prior to being appointed as the CEO & MD of Air India or the chairman of Turkish Airlines, he has served as the political advisor to the current Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğanin 1994 who opposed India’s policies on the International Platforms.

Ilker Ayci is a Turkish businessman whose full name is Mehmet İlker Aycı. He completed his graduation in Political Science and Public Administration from Bilkent University. He was the adviser of the current Turkish President in 1994, who was then the mayor of Istanbul. He has been the CEO of several Turkish companies before becoming the chairman of Turkish Airlines.
