IIT Madras to launch Master’s Programme on Electric Vehicles

News Synopsis

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has announced that it is planning to launch an interdisciplinary Master’s programme on Electric Vehicles. The dual degree will be offered for B.Tech and students to enhance their research capabilities to allow them to engage with e-mobility. 

The enrolment will be from January 2022, during B.Tech third year and dual degree programme. For now, only 25 students will be admitted to the programme. 

The graduates of the programme will be qualified to work in electric vehicle product development, electric vehicle integration and vehicle aggregate engineering, communication and calibration, verification and validation and product and portfolio planning.

The IIT Madras has more programmes with different structures in the e-mobility space. C.S. Shankar Ram, faculty in the Department of Engineering Design, has claimed that the students who will graduate from this programme will be able to establish a foundation for EV engineering. He also said that the students can pursue electives in the specific area of their choice.

The institute has been building capabilities for e-Mobility with its different centres and programmes along with the Centre for Battery Engineering and Electric Vehicles.
