News Synopsis

The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has filed for 107 patents, which incorporates 97 national and 10 international in 2021. With this, the institute has broken its earlier record of filing 76 patents in 2019 and making it the highest number of Intellectual Property Rights ever filed by the institute.

The IPRs include 62 patents, 15 design registrations, 2 copyrights and 24 trademark applications alongside 4 US patent applications. IIT Kanpur director Prof Abhay Karandikar has said that the patents include inventions starting from MedTech to Nano-technology.


Two of the prominent inventions developed at IIT Kanpur includes the reusable facemask with PVDF composite nano-fibres and nasal spray formulation against Covid-19 and other respiratory viruses.
