News Synopsis

South Korean automaker Hyundai has achieved a major milestone by crossing 90 lakh unit sales in India since entering the market in 1996. This landmark achievement highlights the company’s enduring success and strong market presence across various vehicle segments, including hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs.

Strong SUV Performance Led by the Hyundai Creta

Among Hyundai’s diverse lineup, the Hyundai Creta has played a pivotal role in driving the company’s success. Recently, the Creta received an electric variant, further enhancing its appeal. In March 2025, the Creta topped the SUV sales charts with 18,059 units sold, marking an impressive 10% year-on-year growth. The model continues to be a best-seller in its segment, thanks to its balance of design, performance, and features.

A Diverse Product Portfolio for Indian Consumers

Hyundai’s Indian portfolio caters to a wide range of consumer needs. Its current lineup includes:

  • Grand i10 Nios

  • Aura

  • i20 and i20 N Line

  • Verna

  • Creta

  • Alcazar

  • Exter

  • Venue

  • Ioniq 5 (EV)

This variety has enabled Hyundai to maintain a steady presence in every major vehicle category, reinforcing its relevance in a competitive auto market.

Official Statement from HMIL Leadership

Commenting on the sales milestone, Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and COO of Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), stated:

“As we enter the 30th year of our operations in India on 6th May 2025, we are proud of our commitment to the country, which has helped us achieve 9 million unit sales. Despite headwinds in the domestic market due to macroeconomic factors, our focus on exports and the 'Make in India, Made for the World' philosophy has yielded positive results.”

He also mentioned Hyundai’s upcoming plant in Talegaon, which is expected to commence operations in Q4 2025, as a key part of the company’s expansion strategy.

Hyundai India Sales Report – April 2025

In April 2025, Hyundai recorded total sales of 60,774 units, reflecting a 4.59% decline from the 63,701 units sold in April 2024.

  • Domestic Sales: 44,374 units (down 11.64% YoY)

  • Exports: 16,400 units (up 21.48% YoY from 13,500 in April 2024)

The dip in domestic sales was partially balanced by robust export performance, reinforcing Hyundai’s growing global footprint.

Hyundai i10 Crosses 30 Lakh Global Sales Milestone

Another key development is the Hyundai i10 family achieving 30 lakh global cumulative sales. Of these, more than 20 lakh units were sold in India, while approximately 13 lakh units were exported to over 140 countries, including Chile, Peru, and South Africa.

The i10 family now spans three generations:

  1. Original i10

  2. Grand i10

  3. Grand i10 Nios (current model)

Its continued popularity, especially in India and Europe, has established it as one of Hyundai’s most successful nameplates globally.

Looking Ahead: Expansion and Commitment to Indian Market

As Hyundai celebrates its 30th year in India, the brand remains focused on localization, customer satisfaction, and innovation. With an eye on expanding EV offerings and strengthening its manufacturing capabilities, Hyundai aims to further grow its footprint in both domestic and international markets from its Indian operations.
