News Synopsis

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has proudly announced that the Hyundai i10 brand has surpassed 3.3 million unit sales globally. This landmark figure includes over 2 million units sold in the domestic Indian market and 1.3 million units exported to more than 140 countries. The achievement marks a significant step in HMIL's commitment to the 'Make in India, Made for the World' vision.

Key Export Markets and Global Reach

Among the 140+ countries to which HMIL exports the i10, top destinations include South Africa, Mexico, Chile, and Peru. The car’s wide acceptance in both emerging and developed markets demonstrates its global appeal and reliability. HMIL continues to be India’s largest exporter of passenger vehicles cumulatively, strengthening India’s reputation as a hub for automobile exports.

HMIL’s Statement on the Milestone

Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of HMIL, commented on the achievement:

"We are proud of the landmark achievement of surpassing 3 million cumulative sales of HMIL’s brand i10. With over 2 million units sold in India and over 1.3 million units exported to global markets, brand i10 stands as a shining example of HMIL’s commitment to delivering world-class products."

High Localization and Future Export Plans

Kim also highlighted the high localization of the i10 model—91.3% for domestic units and 91.4% for export models—which reflects the strength and capability of Indian manufacturing. Additionally, with HMIL's upcoming manufacturing plant in Maharashtra, the company plans to further increase exports to new global markets, thereby boosting the export share in its total sales.

18 Years of Legacy: Evolution Across Generations

Launched in 2007, the i10 brand has now entered its 18th year, evolving through three key generations—i10, Grand i10, and Grand i10 NIOS. Its popularity has led to consistent average annual sales of over 1 lakh units in India. The model’s reliability and practicality continue to make it a favorite among Indian buyers.

Powertrain Options and Features

Currently, the Grand i10 NIOS offers three powertrain choices:

  • 1.2L Kappa Petrol Manual

  • 1.2L Kappa Petrol AMT

  • 1.2L Bi-Fuel Kappa Petrol with CNG

These options cater to a variety of customer needs, enhancing fuel efficiency and offering both manual and automatic driving experiences.

Safety and Technological Advancements

Hyundai has consistently upgraded the i10 series with enhanced safety and technology. The latest generation offers key features including:

  • Six airbags (standard)

  • ABS with EBD

  • 3-point seat belts and seatbelt reminders for all seats

  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (Highline)

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

  • Cruise Control

  • LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs)

  • Wireless phone charger

  • 20.25 cm touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

Setting Segment Benchmarks

The Hyundai i10 series has consistently set benchmarks in the hatchback segment, meeting and exceeding the expectations of Indian consumers. Its introduction in 2007 brought advanced features such as dual airbags, ABS, and keyless entry—many of which were segment-first at the time.

Conclusion

Hyundai’s i10 brand stands as a symbol of India’s growing capabilities in the global automotive sector. With over 3.3 million units sold across the world, it underscores Hyundai’s engineering excellence, customer trust, and commitment to smart mobility. The journey of the i10—from a city-friendly hatchback to a globally recognized model—is a testament to Hyundai's strategy of continuous innovation, localization, and customer-centric development.
