In a significant development for the 'Make in India' initiative, technology giant HP has revealed a strategic collaboration with Google to manufacture Chromebooks in India. The production, set to commence on October 2, will take place at the Flex Facility near Chennai, where HP has been successfully manufacturing a diverse range of laptops and desktops since August 2020.

Local Production Empowering Indian Students: "The initiative to manufacture Chromebook laptops in India will facilitate easy access to affordable PCs for Indian students. By expanding our manufacturing operations, we remain committed to supporting the 'Make in India' vision of the government," affirmed Vickram Bedi, Senior Director-Personal Systems, HP India.

Chromebook Production Details:

  • The production of HP Chromebooks, starting on October 2, will primarily cater to the demand for cost-effective PCs, particularly in the education sector.

  • Chromebooks, equipped with ChromeOS, are pivotal devices in K-12 education globally, benefitting over 50 million students and teachers. They boast built-in accessibility and security features, fostering secure and connected classrooms.

HP's Local Manufacturing Initiatives:

  • Since December 2021, HP has been actively manufacturing a diverse range of laptops within India, including HP EliteBooks, HP ProBooks, and HP G8 series notebooks.

  • The company has expanded its locally manufactured commercial desktop portfolio, introducing various models of desktop mini towers (MT), mini desktops (DM), small form factor (SFF) desktops, and a variety of All-in-One PCs. These products encompass both Intel and AMD processor options, catering to a broad spectrum of customer segments.
