News Synopsis

On Wednesday, one of the most popular Coffee chains in the world- Starbucks has announced in its annual meeting that its former chief Howard Schultz who led the brand for a very long time will be making a comeback as its interim chief while the company looks for a new leader amid a growing unionization drive. This move came after the current Chief Executive of the company, Kevin Johnson announced his retirement in the month of April. Kevin Johnson led Starbucks for five years since 2017. Prior to Starbucks, he was a former executive at Microsoft and Juniper Networks. By the end of this year, Starbucks aims to name a permanent CEO. Schultz bought Starbucks in the year 1987. It then had 11 stores and 100 employees. Four years later, in 1991 Starbucks went public and the chain had grown to more than 100 stores. Starbucks now has more than 34,000 stores worldwide. He is also rejoining Starbucks' Board. He said; “When you love something, you have a deep sense of responsibility to help when called.” The shares of Starbucks also increased by 6% as the news of Schultz's reappointment breaks out.
