News Synopsis

The district authorities in Rudraprayag District of Uttarakhand in India has set up an Automated Weather Station at Kedarnath to receive round-the-clock weather updates from the Himalayan temple city. They said that the weather station was built with the assistance of scientists from IIT-Kanpur.

According to the sources,  the weather conditions in Kedarnath are constantly changing. This was the epicenter of the 2013 floods in which hundreds died. Officials stated that the automatic weather station will keep devotees, who visit the temple during Char Yatra, informed about the current weather conditions.

They said that the weather station was developed by IIT Kanpur Professor at the request of Rudraprayag district management. Rudraprayag District Magistrate Dikshit stated that the weather station will make the pilgrimage to Kedarnath easier for devotees. He added that it will also be beneficial to the helicopter services for pilgrims.

Kedarnath is a holy pilgrimage shrine located in the mighty Garhwal Himalayas. The town is built around the revered Kedarnath temple near Chorabari glacier, which is the source of the Mandakini river. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a part of Char Dham pilgrimage circuit, and is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva in India.

In June 2013, the terrible event of flooding shattered the land that once shone with the glory and power of Lord Shiva. The once beautiful land of the religious was now barren. In the month of June Uttarakhand saw a lot of rain.
