HDFC Bank Changes Debit Card Lounge Access Rules: Digital Voucher Now Mandatory
News Synopsis
HDFC Bank has updated its airport lounge access policy for debit card users. Starting January 10, 2026, customers will no longer be able to enter lounges by simply swiping their debit cards — instead, they must present a digital lounge voucher.
HDFC Bank Updates Lounge Access Policy
India’s largest private sector bank, HDFC Bank, has decided to introduce a major change to its debit card lounge access program. According to reports, the new system will take effect from January 10, 2026 (New Rules Next Year 2026).
Under the revised process, customers will not be allowed entry by just swiping their debit card. Instead, they must show a digital voucher at the airport lounge.
What Are the New Rules?
Previous System
Until now, HDFC debit card holders were eligible for complimentary lounge access by spending at least ₹5,000 in a quarter and swiping their physical debit card at the lounge.
New System
Under the new rules, customers will receive lounge access only after spending ₹10,000 or more in a calendar quarter.
Within two working days of meeting the spend requirement, they will receive a voucher claim link via SMS or email.
How to Get Airport Lounge Entry Using the Digital Voucher
Customers must follow these steps after receiving the link:
-
Log in using the registered mobile number
-
Verify using OTP and claim the voucher
-
After successful claim, a 12–18 digit alphanumeric code or QR code will be generated
This code must be shown at the airport lounge to get free entry.
After January 10, 2026, physical debit cards will no longer be accepted for lounge access.
Voucher Validity Period
The lounge voucher remains valid until the end of the next quarter from the date it is issued.
Examples:
-
A voucher issued on 15 November 2025 will be valid until 31 March 2026
-
A voucher issued on 10 January 2026 will be valid until 30 June 2026
Where Will HDFC Debit Card Users Get Lounge Access?
Eligible lounges are available in major cities including:
-
Bengaluru
-
Chennai
-
Hyderabad
-
Kolkata
-
Mumbai
-
New Delhi
These include well-known lounges such as BLR Domestic Lounge, Travel Club Lounge, Encalm Lounge, and Adani Lounge.
(The list may change from time to time.)
What Does This Change Mean for Customers?
This update is seen as a move toward a fully digital and more controlled lounge access system.
While the spending threshold has been increased, the digital voucher ensures:
-
Better monitoring
-
Reduced misuse
-
Clear visibility of voucher validity for customers
From January 2026, HDFC debit card users must ensure they have claimed their voucher before traveling, as showing only the card will no longer grant entry.
