News Synopsis

In the year 2017 government set up a committee to draft a data protection bill and in Nov 2021 the committee proposed its final recommendations about the data protection bill. Now, to everyone's surprise, the government has decided to ditch the proposed bill completely and start from scratch that will be more relevant to current times. An official said: “Since it’s a JCP draft Bill, the government can only tweak the clauses to some extent but the provisions cannot be changed completely… A better option is to bring a new Bill altogether which is aligned with the current times". The government said the bill doesn't effectively address the problem of data protection in this ever-changing technological world. This will on the other hand will leave us prone to data attacks as a significant amount of time will be invested in drafting a new data protection bill.
