News Synopsis

As the planet warms, executives and customers are making efforts to reduce the mental impact of climate change. Nonetheless, it can be difficult for businesses to collect the data required to prioritise which technologies to focus their efforts on. Jen Bennett, Google's sustainability lead, steps in to help. Bennett works with Google's engineering teams and customers as a technical director in the office of the chief technology officer to determine how companies can invest in technology to support their sustainability strategies. It's often beneficial to business as well, she told Insider.

"A key part of my mission is to understand being a technologist and entertaining different technologies, and how we pair it up and match it to priorities in business," Bennett said.

Meeting sustainability targets has increasingly become a battleground for cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. According to experts, cloud giants can use sustainability to attract customers who want to reduce their carbon footprints.

According to a survey conducted by Google Cloud in collaboration with Harris Poll, roughly two-thirds of the nearly 1,500 executives polled consider environmental, social, and governance initiatives that invest in a company's ethical impact to be top priorities.
