Google Announces Merger of Google Meet and Google Duo

Giving information in its blog post, Google announced the merger of its Duo and Meet applications. Rumors were going on about the merger of video calling platforms since 2020, but now Google has officially confirmed it. With this decision of Google, the style of video calling will change after the merger. The merger of video calling services will be known as Google Meet.

Google Meet is used for video conferencing and connecting with more people. At the same time, Google Duo allows one-on-one video calling. After merging, users will get to enjoy both the features in a single app. The company said in a blog post that it will bring the Google Meet feature to the Duo app so that users can easily schedule video meetings at the same time.

It is worth noting that Google launched the Duo video-calling app with Allo in the year 2016. The Duo app was made available on iOS and Android and was designed to be a competitor to Apple's FaceTime. Google shut down Allo in 2018, although Duo managed to survive and provide its services to its users despite the company's focus on Google Meet.
