News Synopsis

Google has filed a writ petition in Karnataka High Court with an appeal asking for more time to respond to the questions of the Competition Commission of India. The CCI has questioned Google for its Play Store’s payment system for paid apps and in-app purchase systems. The CCI claimed that such policies are unfair and restrict the app developers to select a mode of payment of their choice.

On December 10, 2021, Google announced the extension of the deadline by seven months for the app developers to integrate with the Play billing system in India. Other than this, the CCI has also started an antitrust investigation of Google, over its dominance in multiple areas such as the Android smartphone agreement and smart TV business.
