News Synopsis

With the goal of empowering teachers and students, technology giant Google announced on Wednesday that it will release new updates for its Chromebook, Google Classroom, and Google Meet.

For users of Google Workspace for Education Plus or Teaching and Learning Upgrade, Google is adding Google Meet features focused on improving classroom connectivity, control, and efficiency.

Shantanu Sinha, Director, Google for Education, said in a blog post, “Now, Meet calls can be auto-transcribed directly into a Google Doc for easy lesson reviews and the ability to search for keywords and concepts.”

According to Google, users can now use Meet's Picture in Picture to navigate through other Chrome tabs while viewing the student's four tiles in a Meet call. Teachers can now add votes, questions, and answers to the live stream and stream them directly to YouTube to keep them in class and check their comprehension on a regular basis.

Cast moderator is a new mode for some devices with Google TV that allows both educators and students to use passcodes to share Chromebook screens wirelessly with classroom displays in the same classroom as the display. The practice set is now available worldwide in beta and English only to Google Workspace customers for educational institutions using Education Plus or Teaching and Learning Upgrade.
