News Synopsis

American tech giant Google plans to add air strike alerts to Android users in Ukraine amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine. According to GSM Arena, this update is available as part of Google's Play service, which the company has enabled at the request of the Ukrainian government.

This feature is intended to complement existing raid alert systems. The vice president of engineering at the company has said that it used the same low-latency system that Google uses to detect earthquakes.

Earlier, shortly after the start of Russia's military operations in Ukraine, the company announced that it would disable some of the Google Maps features in Ukraine, such as traffic information and crowd data. Their claim was that the data could be used as military intelligence.
