G. Krishnakumar has been designated Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), according to a notification.

Throughout his 36-year affiliation with BPCL, he is currently an Executive Director. He is an industry veteran with broad leadership expertise across businesses and functional areas.

He has been at the forefront of BPCL's pioneering work in revolutionizing India's downstream oil retailing market.

Krishnakumar graduated from NIT (formerly Regional Engineering College) in Tiruchirapalli with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in financial management from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai.

According to a company release, he has overseen the organization's customer-centric initiatives into convenience retailing and premium fuels, as well as being the one to implement new tech and digital initiatives in the company, a first in the Indian oil industry.

He also created and cultivated brands such as Petro Card, SmartFleet, Speed, and In & Out, which have contributed significantly to BPCL's distinct customer value proposition in the marketplace, reinforcing the Pure for Sure consumer promise, according to the statement.

Bharat PetroResources Ltd., a subsidiary of BPCL, has acquired participation interests in 26 oil and gas blocks in India and internationally.

BPCL markets its products through a well-established marketing and distribution network that includes 14,802 retail outlets, 5,907 LPG distributorships, 711 Lubes distributorships, 930 SKO/LDO dealerships, 123 POL storage locations, 52 LPG Bottling Plants, 56 Aviation Service Stations, 3 Lube blending plants, and 4 cross-country pipelines.
