News Synopsis

On Tuesday, Union Minister of State, Anupriya Patel

informed that India is expected to conclude free trade agreements with the United Kingdom, Canada, and the European Union before this year-end. The Union Minister of State further told that India’s trade was "passing through a watershed moment" as last, the nation registered USD 675 billion in exports while merchandise exports generated USD 419 billion. In a statement, Anupriya Patel stated, "We (The Ministry) are also in process of negotiations on the signing of free trade agreements with the United Kingdom, Canada, and Russia and they may be concluded before the end of the year.”

The Minister of State in Commerce and Industry

informed this while speaking at the Stakeholder's Outreach Programme organized by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade on the occasion of India inking a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the United Arab Emirates and the Economic Cooperation Trade Agreement (ECTA) with Australia. She further emphasized that exports are important for the growth of India. The minister further told that India concluded the agreement with Australia in just 88 days and it was one of the fastest-ever agreement signed. She commented, "It is a very comprehensive agreement.”
