News Synopsis

Whistleblower Frances Haugen, who exposed Facebook and testified in front of lawmakers about illegal data activity on the social networking site, started a non-profit organization aimed at training lawyers to fight big tech by raising up to $ 5 million.

According to Politico's report, Haugen will set up Beyond the Screen, which will also focus on getting investors to think about the social responsibility of technology companies before funding them, and connecting regulators and researchers to provide insights into how the platform works.

The Facebook whistleblower aims to build artificial platforms for running simulated social networks, regulators, researchers, and other potential scenarios.

Former Facebook employees who have testified in front of the USA, European and Australian authorities for the past few months have secured early-stage funding from donors.

Haugen testified in front of the US and European legislators last year after leaking a cache of Facebook's internal reports. While the report revealed some alarming policy and moderation flaws on Facebook, lawmakers focused most on the document on Instagram's impact on the mental health of young users.
