News Synopsis

Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI) withdrew more than Rs 35,000 crore from the Indian market in February and continued to sell for the fifth straight month.

Foreign investors have been withdrawing money from the Indian market since October last year, but this month's outflow is the largest since it withdrew Rs 1,18,203 crore in March 2021.

The sale was prompted by several factors, including the Fed's decision and the war between Russia and Ukraine.

During February 1-25, FPI withdrew Rs 31,158 crore from equities and Rs 4,467 crore from the debt segment. But at the same time, they invested Rs 120 crore in hybrid equipment.

V.K.Vijayakumar, the chief investment strategist at Geojit Financial Services, said it is difficult to predict how the Ukrainian crisis will unfold and prolonged conflicts would have a serious impact on the world economy.
