News Synopsis

Ford Motor Company's first all-electric F-150 pickup was rolled off the assembly line on Tuesday, taking a major step in the company's electrification journey.

Like other car companies, Ford continues to struggle to procure essential components for car manufacturing, especially semiconductors, making new trucks one of the most difficult times of the year for the complex supply chain of the auto industry

A new plug-in truck called Lightning, a battery-powered version of the F-150 pickup has been America's best-selling car for decades. This model represents Ford's efforts to secure a leading position in the emerging electric truck market. The carmaker based in Dearborn, Michigan, quoted a reservation for 200,000 units and said it was working to triple the initial production target for trucks to 150,000 units a year.

Some auto executives also warn of the impending battery shortage, especially the raw materials needed to build them, and another potential hurdle for companies scrambling to boost EV factories. With the prices of core battery components such as lithium and nickel skyrocketing, automakers are putting pressure on consumers to pass on these costs.
