News Synopsis

According to meteorologist, Mohammad Hussain Mir, rain has been falling in all of Kashmir's districts since Sunday evening, while light snowfall has been observed in upper Gulmarg's mountainous parts.

On Monday, the first snowfall of the season fell in the far regions of Jammu and Kashmir, as rains pelted other sections of the province, lowering the temperature. On Sunday, rainfall in the lowlands and snow in the region's mountains were caused by a western disturbance and winds packed with moisture from the Mediterranean, according to the India Meteorological Department. The meteorologist claimed that rain has been falling in all of the region's districts since Sunday evening, with minor snowfall in the mountains.

Until 8:30 a.m. Monday, the greatest rainfall totals were 26 mm in Gulmarg, Kashmir, and 23.8 mm in Katra, Jammu.  Mir mentioned that the system is travelling northwest and should be out of the region by lunchtime. Daytime temperatures in Kashmir will drop to around 20 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures will drop to about 8 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, the maximum temperature in Srinagar was 24.4 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature in Jammu was 33 degrees Celsius.
